Through the Vintage Eye...

Growing up with my dad as a photographer/cinematographer, I have many memories of cameras from my childhood....all sorts and sizes.  Getting my picture taken was definitely not my favorite thing in the world but looking back I am very fortunate to have a lot of things documented on film!  My dad has quite a few wonderful vintage cameras which he has accumulated over the years and I really think they are just art in themselves!
Not only is a camera fascinating for what it can create but looking at vintage cameras now they are pretty amazing just as they are!  (If I had a bigger apartment I would contemplate starting a mini collection... but perhaps a collection of great 'photographs of vintage cameras' will do...)

Here are some photos of the amazing cameras from my dad's very own collection (and this is only a selection of them)...these photos are art in themselves:

I came across this wonderful illustrator Christine Berrie who does pencil art...she is a Glasgow based artist and has some amazing pieces... I happened to run into her illustrations of vintage cameras!!
She has worked in association with Magma to have her vintage camera designs printed on tote bags and in poster form... and also Blue Q created bags with her designs on them as well (made of 95% post consumer recycled materials).  She draws everyday items in such detail and beautiful colours that I couldn't help but include her cameras here!

Happy Birthday Hanae Mori...

Today is the birthday of Japanese fashion designer Hanae Mori, January 8, 1926...

✮ Her fashion house first opened in Japan in 1951.

✮Her designs have been seen on the runways of both Paris and New York and she is the only Japanese woman to have done so.


✮ She is the first Asian woman to admitted as an official Haute Couture design house by the federation francaise de la couture in France


✮ She designed three uniforms for flight attendants of Japan Air Lines... the second (worn from 1970 to 1977) created quite a sensation because it included a minskirt.


✮ Hanae Mori's signature design inspiration is the butterfly. 


✮ She has made costumes for operas such as Madame Butterfly and Elektra....for ballets including Cinderella, and even musicals such as the Japanese production of Evita.

I miss Summer...

I think one of the biggest reasons I am missing the warmer months, not that it has been a freezing winter though, but one of the biggest reasons is the flea markets/yard sales and garage sales!! No one here in Canada likes to host these wonderful events when the weather gets to be a wee bit chilly!!
So two days ago I went exploring the local 'Antique Malls'...just to get my fix of looking at vintage stuff, not necessarily to buy...They are HUGE...

I always go with a few ideas of what I specifically want to look for...there are a few figurines I am looking for, I always look for "lots" (bags) of vintage costume jewelry, and my Fiance was on the hunt for more vintage suitcases!! (ps. we are in Edmonton right now and I have no idea how we are getting all the suitcases we have accumulated in the car to return to Toronto...)

Anyway it was a wonderful "fix" and we came out empty handed but still...a fun time!

Blogging in the new year...

Wow....we have just about finished week #1 of the year 2012!
Now that I am slowly coming back to Earth after my engagement on New Years Day and my birthday yesterday I am ready to kick-off this year!
I have a few business goals this year...
Goal #1 is definitely to get my jewelry out there!!
Goal #2 would have to be to share Charming Gypsy Vintage locally... I love selling on Etsy.com and it is so rewarding sharing my treasures and helping them find a loving home but I'd love to get Charming Gypsy Vintage into the public eye a bit more...you all will be the first to know :)
Goal #3 is to improve on, learn a ton more, and further myself with my photography.   I love my new camera...for Christmas received a tripod, and for my birthday a new lense so this is something I am so anxious to explore and learn how to get so much better!

2012 thus far...

So there is a reason I haven't written a post in the past few days...
New Year's Day turned out to be one of the most memorable days of my life...My lovely handsome guy got down on one knee and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him! It was so beautiful and I was SO SHOCKED!!
We were walking through the woods with our little dog on a beautiful trail (it seemed to be the only part of this city with any snow right now)...I can't believe it...and am so happy! I guess now I have to start following wedding blogs as well to start planning the big day...if anyone has any good wedding blogs they'd like to recommend please comment below!!
I will get back on the blogging train probably later today with a New Year inspiration post!!
