I love bows...all kinds of bows...all shapes, sizes and styles...
There is something about a bow...whether it is a present topper or a bow tie or a simple classic tied bow. They can be frilly and pretty, eco-friendly, big or small, classic or modern.
⑅ The
bow tie originated among Croatian mercenaries during the Prussian wars of the 17th century. The mercenaries wore a scarf around their neck to keep the neck of their shirts together...this "scarf" slowly developed into the bow tie and necktie.
⑅ The History of the Gift-Wrapping Bow can be found
here...but to be short and sweet, it all began in the early 1900s when it became popular to wrap gifts in bleached white paper and wrap it with a red ribbon. Hallmark introduced wrapping paper in 1917 and it would be held together with ribbon. After 1920 the 'tape' we know today was introduced which allowed more creativity when it came to ribbon and bows.
⑅The first mechanical bow-making machine was used in 1951...and those were the gift topping bows we know today!
